Il vinile 12" più venduto della storia, capolavoro assoluto è indiscusso dei New Order e simbolo indelebile di questo periodo musicale.

Un brano come questo, con tutte le sue sfaccettature, merita di essere raccontato approfonditamente:

Suono - Carichi del bagaglio musicale acquisito con il viaggio nella New York di Arthur Baker (già produttore con gli Afrika Bambaataa e i Planet Patrol), torneranno in Inghilterra con nuove idee per il loro nuovo singolo. Stephen Morris mediante una nuova Drum Machine lavorerà sul resemple di Our Love di Donna Summer (prodotto niente di meno da Giorgio Moroder) e Dirty Talk dei Klein & MBO, aggiungendo i cori ispirandosi direttamente da Uranium dei Kraftwerk. Il potente e inconfondibile basso di Hook andrà ad accompagnare l'intero brano mentre la voce di Sumner andrà a sottolineare il tono solenne dell'opera. Il dibattito sul testo è diviso tra chi lo ha interpretato come l'effetto devastante della morte di Ian Curtis sulla band, e chi invece come riferimento alla guerra delle Falkland/Malvinas, tesi che verrebbe anche confermata dal video rilasciato nello stesso anno. Resta comunque indiscutibile la forza trascinante del groove di Blue Monday e lo stile che i New Order hanno saputo modellare, creando un vero punto di riferimento per intere generazioni di artisti.

Video - Capolavoro nel capolavoro, un mix di immagini di guerra (con alcuni dei mezzi utilizzati proprio nel conflitto Inglese-Argentino), forme e animazioni semplici generate al computer e immagini digitalizzate del membri del gruppo a bassa risoluzione e framerate, con intermezzi tratti dal gioco elettronico Zaxxon nella versione per Apple II e blocchi di colori creati mediante l'alfabeto in codice di Peter Saville utilizzato anche nella copertina del singolo.

Immagine - La copertina del vinile da dodici pollici più venduto della storia è ad opera di Peter Saville, già grafico nella Factory Records (sua la stupenda copertina di Unknown Pleasures dei Joy Division) e collaboratore ancora oggi dei New Order. Il blocco dei colori sulla destra non è casuale, è il codice da lui creato che va ad indicare il numero di catalogo, il titolo del brano e l'artista, decifrabile solo meditante le chiavi presenti dentro l'album Power, Curruption & Lies.

Forse il più grande capolavoro di Trent Reznor, che ha contribuito a far emergere il genere Industrial per le grandi masse. L'album The Downward Spiral rimarrà il più venduto nella storia dei NIN.

Ecco i perché amare una canzone come Closer:


Blasfema: ammirabile la spregiudicatezza e l'orgoglio con il quale riesce a trattare certi temi senza farsi troppi scrupoli.

Ipnotica: Dall'inizio, fino alla parte finale liberatoria con l'assolo di piano, è un incessante battito, l'effetto alienante che imprime è incredibile, quasi come un ipnosi musicale.

Insana: l'intero brano è un viaggio di piacere nel girone negli istinti animaleschi e dei riti pagani, il discusso video di Mark Romanek riesce a trasmigrare perfettamente le idee che un brano del genere può far immaginare, capolavoro nel capolavoro.


Se siete pronti per il trip preparatevi per un esperienza imperdibile.

Con questo singolo i Ladytron hanno confermato ancora l'allontanamento dall'electroclash di inizio millennio, generando uno stile personale e facilmente riconoscibile, allontanandosi però dal Pop di "Witching Hour" (2005).
L'intero album va ad esplorare un terreno più cupo -grazie anche alla produzione di Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails); il risultato è di grandissima qualità e al contempo molto originale nonostante l'intraprendimento di una strada già ben conosciuta.

I Ladytron suoneranno live a Roma il 24 Ottobre al Circolo degli Artisti.

Con affianco il produttore Stuart Price, Aka Jacques Lu Cont, i Killers hanno con questo brano di nuovo raggiunto quella bellezza epica di "Somebody Told Me". Flowers e company sono riusciti ancora a dimostrarsi grandi devoti a quei pilastri conosciuti come New Order e Pet Shop Boys, ricreando con il loro stile -anche troppo sdolcinato ma irresistibile- un altro capolavoro.

Questo stupefacente remix è tratto dal singolo dell'album del '95 Spice Crackers, un lavoro eccellente, con bellissimi brani synthpop come X-Ray e pezzi strumentali come Ronda's Trigger da far impallidire di invidia Brian Eno. Naturalmente i tempi non erano più quelli adatti per questo genere, e l'album è passato in sordina nonostante l'alto livello qualitativo. Procurarselo adesso però vuol dire trovare un capolavoro inaspettato del genere, consigliato vivamente.

Il Trio tedesco è riuscito ancora una volta stupirmi. Direttamente dall'ultimo DVD "Live in Dresden", registrato nell'omonima città della Sassonia, i Camouflage nel loro piccolo hanno dimostrano con questo concerto le loro indubbie -e a mio parere ingiustamente criticate- abilità musicali, prodigandosi in un un concerto di due ore entusiasmante. Il brano in questione "Close", coprodotto con Dan Lacksman dei Telex e contenuto nell'album del 1995 "Bodega Bohemia", è stato riarrangiato splendidamente basandosi sulla versione remixata "We Stroke The Flames", in questo caso la versione linkata.
Il cofanetto del Live, curato graficamente dallo stessa batterista Oliver Kreyssig, contiene due DVD con il Live e con la raccolta di tutti video musicali della loro carriera, e un CD con diversi brani estrapolati dal concerto, oltre alla presenza di Extra aggiuntivi che rendono questo lavoro una raccolta quasi definitiva.
Oltre agli appassionati del genere, voglio consigliare questo Live anche a chi considera molto superficialmente questa band solo una copia carbone dei Depeche Mode, il materiale certamente non manca per iniziare ad apprezzarli veramente.

Quando un gruppo è un 30 anni avanti non c'e' trippa per nessuno!

Non è malaccio o meglio alcuni mix non sono malaccio, altri sono delle cose inascoltabili. A forest è interessante in questa versione, niente a che vedere con l'originale, ma interessante.

Porto con me ancora il bellissimo dolore nelle gambe dopo le due ore di concerto epico del 16 giugno all'Olimpico, ma partiamo dall'album.

Arriva 4 anni dopo il fantastico "Playing the Angel" (l'attesa era stata solo interrotta dall'altrettanto bell'album da solista di Gahan "Hourglass" che non si era distaccato molto dallo stile dei DM) posso dire dopo diversi ascolti che questa attesa però è stata solo in parte ripagata.
Complessivamente la qualità è rimasta elevata, ma rispetto all'album precedente mancano i guizzi di genio e delle vere hit.
Incredibilmente alcuni brani stupendi come questa emozionante "Ghost" e "Oh Well" sono stati inseriti solo nel secondo CD della versione Deluxe Edition, lasciando spazio invece nell'album normale a brani scialbi senza lode ne critica.
Quelli che sono i singoli dell'album, "Wrong" e "Peace", mancano di qualcosa che li faccia diventare veramente orecchiabili, mentre brani come "Miles Away / The Truth Is" e "Jazabel" dimostrano ancora che il gruppo inglese ci sa fare. Molto belli anche i brani reinterpretati da Martin Gore nel secondo cd della versione deluxe, sentire "Only When I Lose Myself" per credere.
Tirando le somme è un album che avrebbe potuto dare molto di più, che purtroppo solo i veri affezionati riusciranno ad apprezzare completamente.

Il concerto all'Olimpico invece -per il mio punto di vista- è stata la rivincita del gruppo: 50.000 persone (alla faccia di quella cagate italiane come Vasco Rossi e Ligabue!) e un atmosfera bellissima nonostante il caldo soffocante. I bravissimi M83 hanno preparato il pubblico al grande evento con il loro stile unico e con brani belli come "Colours"; all'entrata di Dave Gahan l'Olimpico ha emesso un boato inumano, un accoglienza calorosa ad un gruppo amato da generazioni ha dato il via ad un concerto durato più di due ore semplicemente spettacolare. I curatissimi visual curati dal maestro Corbijn hanno accompagnato ogni brano: si è passato dagli ultimi lavori come "Wrong" e "Peace" (incredibilmente rimaneggiata e resa godibilissima rispetto alla versione lagnosa dell'album) ai capolavori classici come "It's no Good", "Policy of Truth" (e qui ho pianto dalla gioia convinto che non l'avrebbero mai fatta) non tralasciando i successi storici come "Enjoy the Silence" e "Personal Jesus", concludendo con la riflessiva "Waiting for the Night". Infallibile Flatcher, emozionante Gore, e come al solito disumano Dave che per due ore ha stregato Roma. Se cercavano il perdono per un album non alla loro altezza l'hanno ottenuto rendendo indimenticabile una serata per migliaia di persone.

Album imperdibile per gli amanti del genere con dei pezzi di alta qualità, tra questi ho scelto quello più lento e riflessivo. Bellissima la voce chiara e decisa di Eskil, affascinante come riesce ad evocare atmosfere e luoghi mentali mentre il synth ricrea in sottofondo il suono dei rotori.
